How was Painting Significant to Chinese Culture

Although painting was not invented in China it was important to Chinese culture. The Chinese regaurded it as the one true art with its close relation to calligraphy. They created paintings for poetic and philosofical purposes. They created portraits too. There were also religious paintings and paintings of objects.
